Review of Fast Food Nation (2006) by Nicolas S — 28 Mar 2009

Overall very heavy-handed and honestly, not very well directed (and I am a Linklater fan in general). It's not that I disagree with the film's premise or don't "get it" - it's that the director's voice in this film was so blatantly smug and "holier than thou" that it made my stomach turn almost as much as the kill scene at the meat plant. Upton Sinclair you are not Mr. Linklater.

Also, Ethan Hawke is getting pretty pretentious these days with his acting style (ironic for someone who was caught sleeping with his kids' nanny). Valderrama and Moreno give their characters some semblance of integrity though the script writing is nauseatingly bad. But hold the phone, Linklater is that...Avril Lavigne in your movie? Really? There wasn't anyone else you could have picked to play a prentious "eco-conscious" college kid? (p.s. the college kid characters were all douchebags, imo). Truly, this is not a movie worth seeing. Maybe the book is more in touch, but I'm not going to waste my money on that either.
