Review of Fast Food Nation (2006) by Steven P — 12 May 2010
If Super Size Me was seeing the physical effects of what has now become an industry as much as an institution, then this is seeing the emotional toll it has on the workers. About the content, I expected images of cattle remains, but not a man getting his leg severed in a meat thresher, not drugged cows unable to comprehend they can escape, and certainly not moneymaking action smart guy Bruce Willis.
As for the stuff that doesn't involve actors and beef organs, first let me state that after many bad experiences I am generally not a fan of sexual content in movies, even when I expect it. Luckily, Richard Linklater handled them very well with dim lighting and sharp editing, so I wasn't able to classify it as you-know-what-ography.
I haven't read the novel, but I am compelled to after seeing this film, but I doubt it will stop me from eating meat on a regular basis.
