Review of Fargo (1996) by Peter N — 30 Jul 2012
For a period of time, the Coen brothers were unstoppable. It seemed like every film they released was another example of a well-written, well-acted, well-directed cinematic landmark. Fargo is definitely their magnum opus, with its simple small town feel wrapped around a story of kidnapping, murder, and deception.
The actors are perfectly cast and, in perfect Coen fashion, quirky as ever. The combination of brutal violence and comedy all build toward a fascinating, tragic, and darkly funny conclusion. I will never look at a wood chipper the same way again.
