A classic!! I saw this movie the first time when it just came out in 1993. At that time, homosexual love was not quite openly discussed in the conservative Chinese society and this movie was a breakthrough.
I found the love story and the Cultural Revolution support each other very well, one doesn't overpower the other. However, the translated movie title might send misleading messages for non-Chinese people.
I gave my full credit to Leslie Cheung's performance in this film.
