The Hong Kong movie maniacs voted it as their favorite Chinese-language film of the century. It's the only Chinese language movie to win the Cannes Palme d'Or. Arguably, one of the reasonably enjoyable Chinese movies which portrays the life of Peking Opera members during the Japanese invasion of China, China's communist revolution and the cultural revolution.
