Review of Farewell My Concubine (1993) by Bing H — 16 May 2008
My all time favourite movie. Gong Li is my favourite actress and this movie certainly shows why. This movie is so much more than what the synopsis gives. It journeys through a time and place in Chinese history in a spand of several years to watch these boys grow up to to witness the changes from empirical to communist China.
To witness the cultural revolution and the aftermath of it. It is a rich, beautiful, sad and touching movie. Leslie Cheung is brilliant! It does the book justice.
