Wow! An epic about the lives of the stars of a Beijing Opera troupe and the woman in their lives, as they perform their way through imperial times, the Japanese occupation, the Chinese civil war, the Communist revolution, the Cultural Revolution and into modern day China.
I have been wanting to see it for 18 years, ever since it won the Palm d'Or at Cannes. Extraordinary film!
