Review of Farewell My Concubine (1993) by Jingbo W — 06 Nov 2009
Well-written script and score perfect-match Leslie Cheung's mesmerizing performance. And it lifts Peking Opera up to a glorious (and true) level which I have previously not recognized. It has its historical and political moments but essentially it's about friendship between two men.
And because of its urging power, I watched M Butterfly and Peony Pavilion as close recommendations. That's what good films do - driving you crazy!
