Review of Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) by Catarina C — 24 Jul 2015
Far From the Madding Crowd is an impeccable period piece. Beautifully constructed with spectacular cinematography and production design and grounded in the performance of the always wonderful Carrie Mulligan, Far From the Madding Crowd offers a glimpse into a piece of history we so rarely get to see onscreen, namely the history of a Victorian woman who is master of her own lands.
She has no husband, no children and yet commands the respect of those who work for her. We so rarely get to see women of this period outside of the very slim parameters of motherhood and marriage and for that alone Far From the Madding Crowd is worth a look.
In addition it is solid film which makes it all the easier to recommend.
