Sure, it may be a bit typical and doesn't have anything to really make it stand out, but FAR AND AWAY does have a charm to it that it undeniable. Despite its 140 minute length, it seemed to fly by because of its characters that quickly became like long lost friends to the viewer.
The film opens in 1892 in Ireland, when two people flee to America to find land. There, the formerly rich young woman slaves in a factory while the formerly poor young man makes plenty of money bare-fist fighting at night.
After a major lost fight, though, all is lost and they are forced to separate. Eventually, though, they meet up again and finally get to compete for the land they always wanted.
