Review of Far and Away (1992) by Jonathon C — 13 Jan 2009
Inn patron 1: "Down from da nort are ya?".
Inn patron 2: "Or perhaps the east?".
Inn patron 3: "West of here maybe?".
Inn patron 4 (Proudly): "South!".
Joseph Donelly: "I'd rather to keep to myself if you don't mind.".
All patrons: "Oh, very wise, very wise.".
Classic Irish humour that captures some fantastic cultural nuances. Although Tom's last good film was Born on the 4th of July, and Nicoles last good film was BMX Bandits when she was about 17 years old (haven't seen "the Interpreter"), they both do a fantastic job here. There is undeniable chemistry expressed in their deliberately spoiled and selfish way. The film captures exactly what I would expect Ireland in the 1880's to be like. Full of laughs, it also has some intimate moments that (dare I say it here) pull at the heart strings. Light hearted. A feel-good movie and a favourite.
