Review of Far and Away (1992) by Jason H — 18 Jul 2011
Epic movie - clever story, great music, wonderful acting, amazing scenery, passionate delivery. Allows you to relive the hypothetical struggles of Irish immigrants during the industrial revolution, similar to Forest Gump's all encompassing tale that takes you through the 60s through 80s. One of my family's favorites.
Adjusted for inflation, this movie grossed $262M worldwide, which would probably place it in the top 200 movies of all time (the 100th grossed $375M). Somebody liked it.
Tom Cruise was/is an incredible actor with energy you don't see from many stars. I suspect this classic has taken a hit, after Cruise's crucifixion by the media for some comments he made about Scientology and the jealous, haters his ego has attracted. Many top Hollywood actors are somewhat delusional from their own narcissism - they are victims of their own success and that trait is what makes them believable. Get over Cruises' megalomania and enjoy this legendary movie for what it is.
