Review of Far and Away (1992) by Terry M — 09 Apr 2010

Looks like Im going to spend most of this rant defending my 100 % score. Here goes..

First of all, Im an actor. Im not a critic really. I perhaps have a affection for it. Critiques. Critics as well. Usually I will probably be writing these reviews on certain films from the perspective of how they ultimately made me feel inside. How these films resonated with me and still do. This is one of those films for me. Maybe its cheesy and there are faults to it in certain specifics and even as a whole.

I personally at first thought would not think Mr. Cruise as a great character actor. Truth is, as popular as this notion is, I simply do not believe it is completely true.

These positive thoughts of him are im sure due mostly to the fact that I was a young impressionable kid when he was in his prime. With little role models to look up to, strangely enough, Mr. Cruise was that for me in a way. Naive maybe..but just the same.

This film was breathtaking for me. Such spirit! The main character is young and has much ambition. Ambition to have a piece of land at that. A piece of land he can call his.

He looses sight of whats important to him with many a distraction. Life is like this. My own path and vision for my life was givin a dose of fresh air when I watched this film as a young teenager. My only regret with the experience of this movie is that I couldnt see it at the theatre and watched it on a small tv screen.

Fortunately the film and the intangeables therin are MUCH bigger than my tv set was!
