Review of Fantastic Planet (1973) by Blind P — 23 Apr 2010
Giant blue aliens on a world primarily concerned with transcendental meditation enthusiasm keep humans as pets.
Concern grows over the increasing numbers of wild humans that "steal", and as it is wondered how much intelligence they really possess they start to show alarming signs of understanding the world, prompting calls for their eradication.
Animation techniques are dated in this one, but there still manages to be some eye-catching environments and creature designs.
Emotionally flat at times, it alternately engages and disengages, leaving the viewer with the feeling of oddness.
I admire the attempt more than its execution, though consideration for 1970s technology must be held. It was an interesting piece to watch with some detachment.
