Review of Fantastic Four (2015) by Daniel Y — 10 Jun 2016
A fascinatingly horrendous disaster, from its clunky and overly serious start, to its rushed, undercooked, and derivative end. Even those who could care less about deviations from source material can easily spot its many flaws as a film in general.
Its jumbled screenplay features an overabundance of dreariness and preposterous segues, and features little to no character development, or a solid plot. There is also pathetically mediocre dialogue, that is often laughable.
And the performances are all completely wooden, minus the amazingly talented Teller, who somehow makes it all somewhat bearable. The film meanders for over three-fourths of its runtime, and then randomly proceeds to an anticlimactic final battle, just to include some action.
That battle is also against perhaps the most one-dimensional and underdeveloped villain in any superhero movie to date, with no clear agenda and non-existent motives. Fans of the Marvel characters will be appalled, and casual viewers will be bored and put off.
