Review of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) by Vedith V — 01 Jan 2019
While the screenplay is a bit messy, the second film in the Fantastic Beasts series is no less exciting. The cinematography, the production design, the visual effects(the climax especially) and the costumes were brilliant and stunning and added to the film's magic and Harry Potter nostalgia. The Crimes of Grindelwald had some really epic and cool moments, especially the opening sequence, the climax and the return to Hogwarts sequence were truly spectacular. Had it also not been for James Newton Howard's musical score the movie would not have been as magical. Jude Law is perfect as Dumbledore as is the performance of Eddie Redmayne. While the movie boasts some of the most amazing sequences in the Wizarding World franchise, it also has its share of dull & forgettable moments as well as some plot holes (which might possibly be explained in the sequels and I might regret terming it as a 'plot hole' ). Still this sequel retains the magic of its predecessors and lives up to the expectations.
Overall as HP fan I found the second Fantastic Beasts film quite an enjoyable experience. For all HP fans its definitely recommended.
