The second movie in the "Fantastic Beasts" series, Crimes of Grindelwald cannot stand alone, you MUST have an understanding of the Wizarding World of the Harry Potter Series and you must have seen the first movie in this series to understand relationships.
It is the unfortunate middle child in the series and is more of a Setup movie that will have better action in the next few movies. This movie provided wonderful special effects from all the creatures to the movement of characters and cuts to scenes.
