Review of Fantasia (2004) by Gavin P — 22 Feb 2015
A very unique film, even 75 years later! It doesn't quite work as a cohesive film, because it's ~10 animated shorts set to ~10 classical songs. It's hard to deny the exceptional soundtrack - Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky - but it does get a bit monotonous and then is broken up by the dry narrator/composer, so there's no continuity.
The animation is superb, especially when you consider it was done in the 1930s! Hard to see you can tell the difference between then & now... Some of the shorts are not too kid friendly, especially the demon at the end, but some are cute, while most are just plain weird! A deserved classic, but probably not for everyone.
