Review of Fantasia 2000 (2000) by Ryan C — 06 Dec 2011

Walt Disney initially conceived Fantasia to be a show that continue to grow and change, adding new pieces and showing old ones mixed in, all through a combination of classical music and animation. But after the initial film, the plans just sort of ended.

Disney's real intention never came to fruition. The people at Disney finally made an attempt to create a new Fantasia project with Fantasia 2000. I think for the most part it lives up to the standards of the original.

It showcases some new animation techniques, some traditional ones, has plenty of good music, its dramatic AND funny, and it has some wonderful animation (no matter its style). I think with its short running time I would've preferred for the film not to yet again showcase the famous Sorcerer's Apprentice piece.

I get why it's there, but I might've enjoyed at least one more new piece instead of something I've already seen. But all in all I can't complain. There is a lot to enjoy in this new addition to the Disney canon.
