Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Sean J — 03 Oct 2007
A swan song from Ingmar Bergman, and one of his/film's great achievements. Beauty, light cast against darkness, a personal look into Bergman's own history, and staggering emotional impetus. Dwarfed, just barely, by The Seventh Seal, and on par with Through A Glass Darkly, this is a substantial cinematic treasure.
Familiarize yourself with Bergman through other works before watching this one, but still, watch it! (Investigate the rating to prepare yourself, but don't shy away.).
