Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Carl F — 19 May 2008
It's like if you asked Bergman to make The 400 Blows... thus he made a Dickens tale with Shakespeare undertones- tackling more or less every subject matter he had addressed throughout is vibrant career.
To call this movie a farewell to cinema seems an understatement, as this film not only encapsulate Bergman's obsessions, but resolves them as well. Full of the typical Bergman brilliance of course, breathtaking cinematography, etc.
A must see for any Bergman fan- I'd say more, but it's quite the amazing film and thus my words would hardly seem fit to justify it.
