Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Charlie F — 16 Mar 2009
Another great deep film from Bergman. The film gets inside a lot of what seems to be Bergman's thought trough the eyes of the main character Alexander. As in other Bergman's films, the story reflects a lot of personal feelings, likings, hatings, doubts and nostalgia.
Themes such as family, morals, and the concept of God, and even magic are subtly touched in this story. The use of space and light is also quite remarkable and suits you perfectly in the contrasting environments of the loved home and the forced home.
Only thing I didn't like is that it was a bit too slow and long. Usually I can stand one of the two, but having the two together made de film a bit hard to watch at times.
