Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Jennifer X — 06 Apr 2009
I feel terrible for saying this, but I literally wanted to kill myself from the boredom. Bergman has never impressed me and this just seals the deal. I wish I could detect the intellectual fulfillment so many seem to derive from his works, but I can't get past the boredom.
Alexander is a boring kid who never seems to do anything but experience things and look depressed, and Fanny barely even appears in the movie. Maybe these things are culturally significant to the movie, but honestly, it's so boring I don't even care.
