What's been called Bergman's most accessible film (agreed!) is a fairy tale without the fairies, a ghost story with believable ghosts. Under the lead of cinematic verses and colors that will forever stay relevant, one family plays host to the characters of happiness, death, infidelity and inescapable truth.

Not one of them (children included) is pure, none are totally rotten. There are two versions of this film, one lasting 188 minutes, another lasting 312 minutes. I viewed the longer version, and have read that the other version is unsatisfactory, incomplete.

So there you have it: some patience required, but highly recommended.
