Note: I saw the 3 hour cut on Netflix.
Whenever magic becomes a major plot device in the final hour - when magic has not played a role at all - you lose me. What could be an interesting study of characters driven by love and lust and sex and power ends up being a slowly-paced snoozer that left me looking forward to the ending.
