Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Frida B — 11 Aug 2007
"Fanny and Alexander" is one of those great films that show us just how wonderful cinema can be. There are truly few films as well directed as this one, and even though it may be Bergman's "lighter" film, it's emotionaly powerful, magnificent, and unforgettable.
i'm quite sure the complete version will make me a hardcore fan, but for now, the 3-hour version has just taken my breath away with its sheer beauty, style and so intimate anaylisis of a rather common family.
And what a cast! Everyone here gives an excellent performance, especially Alexander and the creepy Bishop. A tribute to imagination, creative force shot magnificently, with such a script...a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
