Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Dfh D — 02 Sep 2007
Wow. Just wow.
Subtle, if anything, this film radiates beauty in every way the artform can muster; beautifully, but lightly, coloured by Alexander's fantasies and notions, we see the world. The cinematography and editing are visual poetry, and the characterization and development is more perfect than in any film I've ever seen. It is one of the most human-- both devastating and funny-- films I have ever seen. The settings and costumes are also amazingly designed, a feast for the eye (As well as the mind). It is 312 minutes wonderful, and is deep, passionate, and above all entirely enjoyable.
