Review of Fanny and Alexander (1982) by Mike E — 22 Dec 2007
A semi-autobiographical tale from master director Ingmar Bergman, telling the story of a large upper-middle class family in turn-of-the-century Sweden. Beautifully shot by long time Bergman collaborator, Sven Nykvist.
Simultaneously typically brooding (typical of Bergman... downright grim even) and hopeful. Intensely well written characters, played by wonderful actors. See this film, unless you hate film.
