Review of Fanboys (2009) by Lee B — 19 May 2010
Many years ago, a friend who was a year and half younger than me was talking to me about Star Wars. He was really excited about something. When I told him I wasn?t very excited about it, his reply was ?Well Star Wars is my generation, that?s why you don?t really care.? Well, I am an old man, but we are exactly the same. The original trilogy was right when I was a kid. But I never got too into it. This might be because I grew up on army bases and sword and fantasy type things never trumped playing soldier.
Despite not being a star wars geek, or really knowing all of the ins and outs of it, I thought Fanboys was entertaining and not too bad. I actually liked a few of the cheeseball jokes and got every reference (I think) to the franchise. The personality dynamics were great for the main characters. And I am happy that it didn?t get too into the gross out or sexual humor that most teen oriented movies skew. However, maybe this was aimed for people more so of my generation. If so, then it doesn?t work as well because old guys like me, I can?t imaging they?d geek out over these things.
But I liked the idea and reference humor. It?s good enough.
