Review of Fanboys (2009) by Blæke W — 06 Jul 2010
Plot: 7/10 - After Eric learns that one of his old friends is only expected to live for three more months, he joins the rest of his old gang to travel to the Skywalker Ranch, and steal and view Star Wars Episode I, before it is released in the next year.
The plot is generally based around a heist. A heist is something common to see in movies, but the way they presented it in the movie was far more different. Usually in a heist, they do it for benefit (from money of jewels), here, they did it for there dying friend. Also, the thing they set up a whole breaking and entering plan for, is a Star Wars movie. These aspects make the movies plot feel more original and fresh.
Acting: 7/10 - The acting was actually pretty good for a road trip movie. The actors portrayed there characters very well, and even the minor characters did a very good job with there measly five or ten seconds on screen. My only problem is that Dan Fogler sometimes overdid his character, to the point where the character started to be unbelievable (in a bad way).
Script: 6/10 - The script was nothing special, and it packed to much Star Wars and Star Trek references into the movie, but overall, it was still good. An other problem is that the dramatic scenes weren't written very well, due to the fact that the script keeps Star Wars in it at all times.
Comedy: 5/10 - The comedy of the movie was more like a four for me, but I feel like people would find the movie funnier if they were actually die hard fans of Star Wars, or understand the movie more than me. But, for me, most jokes were misses, and all the die hard fans were over-stereotyped.
Interest: 4/10 - The overall plot of the movie is very predictable, the jokes aren't funny, the theme of Star Wars is over-placed, and the only thing to keep you watching is cameos, some only recognizable by actual Star Wars fans. Other than that, the movie isn't one you really want to see to the end.
Grade: 29/50 (58%) = D+.
