Review of Family Plot (1976) by Gerry R — 03 May 2008
Now I think I've seen every Hitchcock ever made except for one or two really early British ones. I saved his last for last, not intentionally but just because I'd thought I'd heard this wasn't that good. Wrong.
This is a really fun romp and although not a Hitchcock classic, it's definitely a big cut above the usual mystery film. Excellent performances by Barbara Harris and Bruce Dern as a bickering kinda trashy couple bumbling into some detective work that goes a lot deeper and darker than they expect. That couple is balanced perfectly by the wealthy, dashing, attractive and scheming Bill Devane and Karen Black. Some typically quirky but brilliant Hitchockian moments make this another must-see. Sorry I waited so long.
