Review of Family Plot (1976) by Sean S — 08 Mar 2014
This underrated masterpiece and Hitchcock's final film serves up a fun plot while still managing to have a dark streak. Helped greatly by John Williams' baroque score, it feels almost ebullient at times despite its characters' garish nature (some willing to resort to killing to cover up their pasts).
Although not the central conceit, Hitchcock himself proclaimed, "Murder can be fun." And that line sums up the mentality of Family Plot, which never loses sight of its scope or aims too high.
