Review of Family Plot (1976) by Johnathan B — 11 Sep 2009
It's an unusual game of cat and mouse in which the protagonist seeks an wealthy, elderly lady's nephew, who was given away in infancy, to inform him that he is the heir to a fortune. What they don't know is that the nephew is a wanted jewel thief and kidnapper who think they are tracking him to black mail him or turn him in.
As a result, the pursuers become the pursued and danger and intrigue unfold. It was an interesting concept, but very atypical for a Hitchcock. The writing lacked the fullness and depth of some of his earlier works and the overall the mood was more light-hearted and almost comical.
