Review of Fallen (1998) by Aidan H — 27 Aug 2008
I realised after 30 mins that this film was not going to have many shocks or gory set-pieces. Later on, after sitting through yet another series of shots of people touching each others' shoulders/ holding hands etc.
, it was evident that this was going to have zero terror quota either. Lame pseudo-Exorcist back plot notwithstanding, Azazel's character doesn't seem to make sense. He's a demon that just hangs out killing people for fun (er, OK) but even demons need more motivation than that, I'm sure.
It sure seems to spend a lot of time indoors too. I can't seem to remember a thriller/horror film set in so many living rooms, offices and kitchens. Visually, it had a number of nice camera set-ups and textures(despite having little to work with) but the general feeling coming from me was one of boredom.
A great premise slowly wasted, in my opinion. Stars for Denzel and the DoP.
