Review of Fair Game (2010) by Robert C — 17 Apr 2011
Solid performances in a decent true story based drama which just never quite ignites properly.
Plames'(Watts) familly's name is dragged through the mud by government & CIA officials after her husband Joe Wilson(Penn) discloses information to the press in 2003 claiming that the evidence of WMD's in Iraq was fabricated. Knowing this as he was requested in a non paid CIA role to investigate the trafficing on Uranium tubes in Niger.
Officials leak information that Plames was merely a third rate member of CIA staff & that her husband was a fraud.
Media attention & death threats sent threaten to ruin their marriage as Wilson pursues justice where Plames is reluctant to follow it up.
The input from the two leads is as you would expect with some not unsatisfactory support. The film just never quite reaches boiling point.
Having said that it's a good watch.
