Review of Fair Game (2010) by Liam C — 12 Nov 2013
I don't feel it's right of me to review Fair Game, I saw it some odd weeks ago and I drifted in and out of concentration while I was watching it. I knew it had an urgent tale to tell but I was bored for some parts but really engaged for other parts. It's a bad sign when a movie like this resorted to me flicking through my iPad. The movie didn't feel penetrable, everything moved too quickly before I could get my bearings and before I knew it, it was another scene. Characters that were not main felt two dimensional and lifeless. The ending credits couldn't come quicker. I mean, I was squirming in my seat... What happened here? Finding it hard to summarise the DVD box information to a friend, although finding it interesting, sort of sums up my time with this movie. I liked the idea, that's why I rented it out from the library in the first place but the execution seemed all over the place.
I dont see why Naomi Watts' performance was getting the praise it was, don't get me wrong, it's not horrible but it's nothing outstanding either, it's a good woman in danger role but nothing special. Sean Penn, on the other hand, was amazing as always. I don't even know what it is, he's just playing an ordinary guy who has to bet angry now and then and he just roles with it and keeps on going, it's amazing really. Soundtrack was amazing also.
I am posting this review on the 12th of November and I saw the movie about 2 weeks ago, I will see it again some time soon to see if my opinion changed. Current rating 2/5.
