Review of Fading Gigolo (2013) by Andrea M — 10 May 2014
I'm pleased to discover that John Turturro is as good a director as he is an actor. In spite of the occasional line that falls a little flat, Fading Gigolo is well written and wonderfully original.
Unlike many Hollywood movies that go so far overboard in their attempts to be sexy that they actually turn most women off, Fading Gigolo gets it just right. John Turturro (the director and the actor) clearly understands a sexually experienced woman's need to feel her desire increasing in slow, delicious increments.
In this sense Fading Gigolo is quite exquisite. It is a subtle film in many respects, often revealing its soul at unexpected moments. Hollywood can keep its overly eager macho idols that rush toward a woman like puppies clamoring for a milk bowl! I'll take the finesse of Turturro any day.
