Review of Fading Gigolo (2013) by Tom J — 27 May 2014
Straddles that awkward line between comedy and mawkish, and stumbles onto the wrong side too often. Had our Fioravante not had the combined pulchritude of Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara eating out of his doleful hands it might have tempered the whimsy with a little reality check, but in each instance the minor roles in what was a very minor film were padded out with stars too big for the story.
Why, for instance, was Liev Schreiber playing some neighbourhood schmuck ? Woody was playing lovable Uncle Mo showing all the kids how to play baseball, which was pretty uncomfortable considering the long-standing allegations against him.
When one of the youngsters complained to his mum that 'his bottom hurt' there was a bit of a disconnect - apparently it was constipation. Fading in the memory very quickly.
