Review of Faces (1968) by Louis D — 01 Feb 2008
Cassavetes' gritty black and white drama analyzes the inevitable harshness of relationships (routine, jealousy, infidelity) through a rigid attention to complex emotions rarely seen in movies. The portrayal of said emotions and the profound insight surrounding human interaction allows Faces to rival Bergman's Scenes From a Marriage in regard to achieving near-perfect cinematic realism.
