Review of Faces (1968) by Jaime D — 06 Jun 2009
Beautifully shot even if what Casavetes couldn't have forseen was that 40 years later this black and white grainey style would be a most commonly used in perfume comercials... vissualy sometimes I felt like I was watching an extended Kelvin Klien advert.
.. As for the plot... well Seymour Cassel said in an interview that the film was experimental and the problem for expermantal films is that they they take chances, succeed sometimes and fail sometimes and tend to lay the ground work for other directors to more complete and accomplished films.
.. I'm not a big fan of improvisation in a movie, I think a good cast can make a good script seem equally as realistic without the repitition and looseness of unscripted work... Worth a watch, beautifull and inovative but not a masterpiece.
