Review of Eyes Without a Face (1960) by Gordon C — 24 Feb 2011
A fine (and quite chilling) example of the "mad scientist" genre - but there's no foaming at the mouth or "showing those fools who called me mad!" in this one. In fact, the calm and detached manner in which Genessier performs his nasty surgeries is what makes the film really disquieting.
I wonder how many examples of this sort of thing have happened in real life? Of course, we all know of Dr. Mengele, but are there others, I wonder? Perhaps there would be others, if more amoral scientists and/or doctors felt they could perform such experiments with the backing of the State, as Mengele did.
