Review of Eyes Without a Face (1960) by Kyle M — 12 Nov 2015
A clear classic in its own right -- unsettling, disquieting, poetic, horrifying, anguished, tragic. Yet it is done so unassumingly, so directly. That may bring in some of the alien, frightening element.
There's so much here, conceptually and visually, it is eerily, darkly fascinating & compelling. And it works visually so well that it could work as a silent film. Tremendous body acting by Edith Scob.
This film is unflinching, yet has the subtlety of true art. 4-4.5.
