Review of Eyes Without a Face (1960) by Cindy G — 24 Feb 2011
This movie scared the hell out of me when I first saw it -- as a preteen, one Saturday afternoon on a UHF "Shock Theatre" kind of show (with a different title.) Even at that tender age, I sensed something different from the usual Hammer horror fare I watched regularly (without fear)...and some of the images haunted me for years.
As an adult, I became somewhat obsessed with trying to find out what the title of the movie was that had scared me so much in my youth...and it wasn't until this DVD release that I knew for sure. (Then it took me a couple of years after I got the DVD to bring myself to watch it!).
Not as frightening as an adult, but just as haunting.
And when a real-life face transplant made the news, I couldn't help but think of this film.
