Review of Eyes Without a Face (1960) by Kkl10 A — 12 Feb 2014
It's central theme is on the money (Genessier's guilt over causing the accident which disfigured his daughter) and also the progression of his treatment of his daughter like a laboratory animal (also on the money).
What is a letdown is the at times rather naive and pretty old fashioned storytelling (exposition abounds & and the police work is done particularly vague). The direction has some nice moments, but overall it's not that interesting and the viewer is always ahead thanks to the story being minimal and predictable, and not only predictable but paced like a snail.
The acting can't really be talked about in any superlative way, as it's pretty flat. As an idea, Eyes Without a Face has a certain draw but the film underwhelms in almost every way.
