Review of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Marty B — 21 May 2011
My previous experiences with Kubrick films (with the exception of The Shining) have all bothered me. His other films left me ready to conclude I simply did not like his work. I can't place my finger on why this is so, but I expected the pattern of being rubbed the wrong way to continue. With Eyes Wide Shut, however, that pattern has been broken.
From what I had heard about the film, I expected a lot more sexuality. In fact I expected the plot to be rather limited to the subject. Perhaps my low expectations made this into a greater experience than it really was. Regardless, I enjoyed it very much.
