Review of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Hugo S — 04 Oct 2011
Just watched this for the first time since I saw it in its theater run. I've read the short story on which it's based and it's actually very faithful but there seems to be a dimension missing.
It's haunting and uninvolving at the same time. Kubrick's perfectionism almost becomes a flaw. There is something in the way the actor's move that seem way too calculated. On a technical level, Eyes Wide Shut is sublime, but the plot is kind of bland.
It worked better as a literary piece.
