Review of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Sean Q — 05 Apr 2012
A film that is probably a little behind its time. Surrounded by a rush of filmmakers and audience members who have the same patience as a squirrel on cocaine, this film doesn't fit the status quo. Perhaps this is why this film isn't considered one of Kubrick's best. Having seen the European cut, there is much that adds to the film. Like Barry Lyndon, this will test your patience with fluid, beautiful shots filled with bokeh, lens flares, and lights that vary many levels of color temperature that when combined illuminates each frame.
A story about voyeurism, and about what we see isn't entirely the truth.
