Review of Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Petros T — 12 Jun 2011
I don't want to see it again, but I have a lot of respect for this film. I think that it's a very intellectual piece that focuses on themes of infidelity and unsatisfying marriages. It's visually odd but striking.
It's got some good mystery and suspense. It's too long. A lot of the editing and cuts (and way too many cross dissolves... yuck) annoyed me. But at its core, it is art. It is entertaining more than half the time, but again, that's not the point.
It's meant to be a work of art with a powerful message, and I think it achieves that.
