Review of Eye of the Beholder (1999) by Bryan K — 27 Feb 2009
Here is a film that tries to conceal a total lack of plot and character development with cliche noir elements and lush design as style. The film may look and sound good, but it doesn't even scratch the surface of the deep subject material it tries to delve into.
Obsession is, just like the characters, insane, but for a film studying it to show in no way what is driving the characters to their obsession completely derails it. The film is truly devoid of insight and meaning, and even of logical sense (the continued ability of McGregor's character to access British intelligence resources).
Woefully bad.
