Review of Eye in the Sky (2007) by Byron B — 28 Jul 2017
This off-season spring film has an amazing ensemble cast in a story that often has you on the edge of your seat. I saw this a solid year before streaming Homeland on Hulu (which dealt with some similar counter-terrorism themes beginning four years before this, and of course the original Israeli series Prisoners of War began to explore this modern warfare in 2009).
A lot of the tension and humanity in this story comes from the conflict between decisive military action and the unfortunate consequences related to innocent civilian casualties with a sub-complication related to drone operations.
We see politicians debate, we see a high-ranking military officer (Mirren) fight to complete a mission that is up against the clock, and we see agents on the ground in an internal struggle to either obey orders or act conscientiously and morally.
